This is a bit sad. Popular Electronics had its first issue in October 1954. Its competition was and still is Radio Electronics. Together, but separately, these two magazines started the micro computer revolution with the introduction of build it yourself kits. Radio Electronics came out with a micro based on the Intel 8008 and Popular Electronics was soon to follow with a microcomputer based on the new Intel 8080 called the Altair. The Altair used what is now called the S-100 bus (the Zenith Z-100 is a direct descendant). In November 1982 Popular Electronics was renamed Computers & Electronics. The magazine, in my opinion, currently has degraded down to the trash level (the level of Popular Computing) from what was once a great magazine - this is the sad part. A message on INFO-MICRO states that the publisher announced that it will bite the dust soon. 31 years.... Gern
