[comp.protocols.time.ntp] An exercise left for the reader...

butler@esds09.es.dupont.com (butler) (04/10/91)

We have a Spectracom 8170 clock that we would like to use to set the time for
our local net. I've gotten the XNTP distribution from louie.udel.edu and have
looked at the refclock_wwvb driver. The comment section at the beginning of the
file contains the following statement:

"To do this you need to make a device consisting of a one-shot (74123 or
similar) to
shorten the pulse to something that can pass for a 19200 bps character, and an
MC1488
or equivalent to convert to RS232 signal levels."

Can someone send me (or tell me where to find) a schematic for such a device?

In addition, if anyone has practical advice about getting this code running
under ULTRIX 4.1 on a DECstation 5000 I would appreciate it. I'm pretty new to
the UN*X world.

Thanks
