I have a machine which is chiming with version 1 and version 2 ntp daemons. It seems to only talk with the version 1 servers. a sysstat command shows xntpdc> sysstat system uptime: 312 time since reset: 312 bad stratum in packet: 0 old version packets: 14 new version packets: 20 unknown version number: 0 bad packet length: 0 packets processed: 14 bad authentication: 0 wander hold downs: 0 notice that packets processed equals old versions packets. a peers command shows remote local st poll reach delay offset disp ====================================================================== =mmagnet1.mmc.co 129.243.52.206 3 64 376 0.1940 0.265237 0.5664 =mmagnet2.mmc.co 129.243.52.206 2 64 367 0.1944 0.109045 0.5571 =netmgr 129.243.52.206 2 64 377 0.1952 1.098351 0.0109 +piggy 129.243.52.206 16 64 0 0.0000 0.000000 64.000 +gandalf 129.243.52.206 16 64 0 0.0000 0.000000 64.000 +remus 129.243.52.206 16 64 0 0.0000 0.000000 64.000 the bottom three are the version 2 servers. Why does my version 2 xntp not talk to other version 2 servers but will talk to version 1 servers. my configfile is #gandalf peer 129.243.52.97 version 2 #piggy peer 129.243.52.228 version 2 #remus peer 129.243.52.98 version 2 # #these are our servers in denver to sync to #but only to three server 129.243.0.2 version 1 server 129.243.0.1 version 1 server 129.243.0.4 version 1 #server 129.243.0.8 version 1 driftfile /etc/ntpd.drift BTW, the sever piggy is running the same code and talks to the local machine that is having problems. piggy has the same config file except that piggy is replaced with this machine. -- *_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_* Malcolm C.
