[comp.protocols.time.ntp] timekeeping for dial-up PPP hosts

smb@ulysses.att.com (06/25/91)

Very soon, we'll have a number of hosts that use V.32 modems (9600 bps,
full duplex) as their sole IP link to the outside world. Just how much
they'll be connected will vary; for some, the calls are quite expensive,
while for others, the IP host will be in the free, unmetered radius.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to keep the clocks set
properly? Ntp is designed for close contact; I've even seen machines
running ntpd give up after the local net has been out of communication
with the world for too long.
