Enforcement of Sharia Bill 1991 was presented in joint sitting
of the Majlis-e-Shoora (parliament) by the PM Nawaz Sharif in
April 1991. Later the bill was handed over to a select committee
of National Assembly (NA).

The select committee discussed it and incorporated seven out of the
eigth ammendments proposed by religous scholars.

Thereafter NA started debate over it. PDA boycotted the debate
because it wanted to send the bill to Council of Islamic Ideology
and have public debate over it for next three months. GOP said well
much Public debated has been done in the past five years over it
and prooceded with general discussion over it.

Once NA completed the general discussion, IJI made an agreement
with PDA and PDA headed by BB decided to come back and discussion
was reopened.

NA adopted three ammendments proposed by PDA. However rejected the
ammendment that the words 'Quran and Sunnah is the supreme law
of Pakistan' with 'Quran and Sunnah will source of laws'.

Last night NA completed section-wise debate over the bill and passed
it with big majority.

Now the bill has to passed by the Senate. If senate passes it without
any ammendment, Bill will goto President for his signatures and
once President fixes his signatures over it, it becomes a law.
However, if Senate make some ammendments, it will be debated
and voted in the joint session of Majlis-e-Shoora before
going to president.
