[net.ham-radio] 150 MHZ SATELLITE INFO REQUEST

biro%oracle.DEC@decwrl.ARPA (04/02/85)

Hi,

Can anyone help me in find out I am trying to find outh
what satellite I am hearing an info. on others.

  1) what Satellites that I am hearing on 150 Mhz

  2) information on Satellites on from 0 to 550 Mhz
that are used for data and or scientific studies
especially one with studies on radiation, solarwinds,
and magnetic fields studies and where to find the
     decode information.

I've been hearing signals that sound like a satellite on 150.0 mhz.
There is +- 5Khz doppler shift and it is going in the right direction
( -5 khz as the bird disappears ) so this should rule out a command
station. It has a high inclination as I have seen it as high as
20 degrees elevation to the north of my qth which is located at
71.40328 w long, 42.62233 n lat.I have calculated that its period is
about 116 min ( assuming that there is only one satellite). The data
sound like random send RTTY data with a 850 hz shift. There are burst
of varying lengths of "characters" that all seem random and I have
heard it for over 15 min. before LOS. The transmission are NBFM and
the signal is linearly pol.

I remember discussion on the net some time ago about Russian satellites
on 150 mhz. Is this the same thing? If so has anyone figured how to
decode the beast. There are also Navigational satellites on this freq.
could it be one of them ( I have not check yet to see if there is a
similar transmission at the same time on 400 Mhz.)
