Here are some excerpts from the local RCMA April newsletter,
written	by Ed Sirovy (IL-4):

	   Radio Communications	Monitoring Association
		   Chicago Chapter Newsletter

			     Regency

"Plenty of	Regency	HX2000 and MX4000 radios were in
attendance at our last	meeting. Opinion was quite
     favorable."

"Now the MX7000 is	out and	I borrowed one and a labora-
tory to go	with it. First	the good news, 1/2 uv at 899
MHz before	the Cushman quit. IT WORKS! Coverage 25 -
     550 MHz and .8 to 1.3 GHz!"

"Now the bad news. It IS	an extended MX5000.	Scan
rate is very slow	and slower. Images are	as expected:
200 - 550,	double the xmit	frequency and subtract 750
MHz IF and there is your image. 800+, double the	xmit
frequency and subtract about 750 MHz IF and there is
     your image!"

"Caught DuPage Sheriff and	Toll Road at 954 with cellu-
lar telco nearby. I sent this info on the MX5000
images (200 - 550)	to our technical editor last	time
and he sez he would defer publishing it till he got
further info! That's as useful as	Radio Moscow."

"This radio is hot. I heard the WCFL studio-transmitter
link near 947 MHz. I was about 1 mile	south of the
transmit path about the same distance from downtown.
Signal fluttered	on the	back of	the set	whip but the
receive sight uses	a humongous dish."

"Cellular telco came in fine with	BOTH sides of the
conversation heard. Privacy of Cellular radio-telco is
a MYTH. All the news people who ran out and got cellu-
lar carphones so as not to	let the	opposition eavesdrop
     got took."

			 FCC Microfiche

"The long expected	format	change	is here. The FCC
merged its broadcast, old format, marine coast,	air-
craft ground, Chicago regional study (of 5	years ago),
microwave, 470 -	512, among others databases into one
new file.	Left out (thank	goodness) was the ham, boat,
and aircraft mobile files (900,000 extra entries).
Also left out was the AM-BC direction antenna file."

"Microwave	is especially large as	receive sights are
covered.	Receive and transmit info includes azimuth,
elevation and beamwidth. Also, all services, make and
model of transmitter and antenna.	Those who buy a	copy
later this	year when it becomes available will find it
more than	double in size and price." [latest word	from
NTIS is that FCC announce another delay, so the fiche
won't be available	before May 1985! - Bob].

		       What About Bearcat

"....Uniden which bought out Bearcat from Electra is
presently	working off its contractual	obligations.
Electra had ordered parts for X many units and Uniden
agreed to buy the manufactured gear.	When this is
gone, Uniden will be free to bring	out what ever equip-
ment it wants and it will take over manufacturing."

"While Bearcat was	frozen,	Regency took advantage of
this weakness to buy everything it could find in Japan
     (1000, 2000, 4000,	5000, 7000)."

			  Odds 'n Ends

"Arizona may ban use of a 2-way radio while a vehicle
     is	in motion.

US-Canada-DOD closing Pine	Tree RADAR net.... FCC has
proposed weakening cable-TV radiation standards,	hope
APCO and NABER can	stop this before there's another
     "Hillside"...."
