[net.ham-radio] Scanner coverage

IAIPS-DCAS@USC-ISI.ARPA (04/09/85)

Hi,

I have an old Bearcat 210 scanner which I sometimes use to
monitor the 2 meter repeaters. I would also like to use it on the
lower end of the band but, unfortunately, it does not cover 2m
frequencies below 146 Mhz.

Does anyone know how to modify this scanner to extend the
coverage down to the lower end of the band? Thank you.

Dan:

Can't reach you via mail. You've probably heard this trick before:

To listen on a frequency f (where f is in the VHF-hi or UHF
	range), program the scanner to

		f + 2(IF),

	to hear the image.

I use this method on the BC350 and BC300 to listen in on the 400 - 420
MHz band. Bearcat has used IF's of 10.8 and 10.85 MHz in their scanners.
