Again, to those it offends, I apologise for this blatant marketing stuff - this Press Release. I have been getting so many questions about tape backup for MS OS/2 1.2 with its long filenames and Extended Attributes - and Access Control Lists for Lan Manager. Now we have announced, so I'm passing this information on to you all. You should contact Syton Corportation about specific hardware supported - I know the list of backup devices is growing daily & includes Diskettes, 8mm, DAT, DC 600 devices from companies including Archive, Cipher, Compaq, Exabyte, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Tecmar, & Wangtek. Sytron are at 117 Flanders Rd, Westboro, MA 01581 - ph# 508-898-0100 Alistair Banks OS/2 Group Microsoft WESTBORO, Mass. -- August 14, 1990 -- Microsoft Corporation and Sytron Corporation announced today that Sytos Plus(R) File Backup Manager has been chosen as the backup and restore utility to be packaged with Microsoft(R) LAN Manager version 2.0. (...sections omitted...) Sytos Plus performs a full backup and restore of network file and directory Access Control Lists (ACLs), file permissions and network system files. Sytos Plus supports OS/2's High-Performance File System (HPFS) and will transfer files between HPFS and the File Allocation Table (FAT) file system used in MS-DOS(R). Long pathnames (up to 260 characters) are supported along with the handling of Extended Attributes of OS/2 files. The program fully supports Universal Naming Conventions (UNCs). Backup procedures can be run from either the network server or workstation. Broadcasting of messages lets users know when a procedure is to begin and when open files are encountered. Flexible retry options for busy or open files on the network ensure a complete system backup. (...sections omitted...) "Sytos Plus has truly simplified OS/2 network backups," said Geoffrey Day, systems manager at Liberty Mutual Insurance. "The hardware advantages are that we can attach a tape drive to the server, rather than dedicating a PC for backups, and that we can use our existing storage devices with Sytos Plus."
