I have been trying for two months to get Presentation Manager applications to print to shared printers under LAN Server 1.2. Either the application gives an error message (like Excel) or the disk churns but the printout goes nowhere. After sever attempts at patches and workarounds, one of the IBM phone support people mentioned offhand that there is s bug where if the UNC name of the printer (including slashes) was longer than 14 characters, that printouts would go noplace. My UNC name for the queue was: \\IMDPRN01\PRN01Q01 The new one is \\IMDPRN01\Q01. Changing it fixed everything. Note that you don't have to change the alias for the shared printer. You have to change the name of the queue in Print Manager. Under the this scheme, the alias for the printer on the domain controller is IMDPRN01, but the name of the queue on the server where the printer is attached is Q01. Yes, this differs from the way files are shared. Don't ask me, I didn't write it! All I can tell you is that the fix works. IBM says that there will be a patch soon. In the meantime, I hope this helps someone! - Chris
