Using the current release of the 3+Open software networking system led to a curious problem. I'm trying to bring up a PS/2 70 running OS/2 v1.2 (EE) as a net station. At boot time, the NETWKSTA.SYS file fails to be loaded with the odd message that "redirection is already installed," or something like that. The 3+Open manuals indicate that that message is a software error and to contact technical support. Our support people are having no luck getting an answer though. Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, wany thoughts as to the cause? Thanks, Jack

The answer we got from both Microsoft and 3COM, was Only Lan Mgr 2.0 will work with OS/2 1.2, and OS/2 1.2 is required for Lan Mgr 2.0 Lan Mgr 2.0 was just released last month. I don't think 3COM has released their version yet, but the Microsoft version is available through their authorized Network Specialists, which are approved retailers. (Unfortunately for us, no-one around here has yet been authorized, so we're still waiting, but that's another story :-() --- David C. According to Network World, 3Com began shipping LAN Manager 2.0 last week. Be warned, the value added services that came with 3+Open 1.1 (i.e. Backup, Mail, Directory Service, Internet) have not been ported over to work with LAN Manager 2.0. Apparently 3Com is going to wait until version 2.1 with these products. ============================================================================= Delbert Matlock Internet: dmatlock@eecs.cs.pdx.edu MicroNet Northwest Voice: (503)228-3071
