Can this be done from the compatibility Box ? I've run it in real mode and it seems to come up, but the mouse doesn't work. -Jaz | Jack A Zucker {cwjcc,pyramid,decvax,uunet}!jaz@icd.ab.com | | Allen-Bradley Company, Inc. or ICCGCC::ZUCKER | | 747 Alpha Drive | Highland Hts., OH 44143 phone: (216) 646-4668 FAX: (216) 646-4484 |

Jack Zucker asks (loosely quoted) Can I run Windows 3.0 in the Dos box of OS/2? [end loose quotation] Well, the answer is a guarded yes. I'm doing so at the moment, in OS/2 extended edition 1.2, Corrective Service Disk level WR04098, but we were doing it even before the latest fix. As a further complication, I'm running Windows over an OS/2 LAN, which works better than you might think. (A LOT better than under Novell) Keep this in mind: it will always give you the "NetPopUp Service Not Running" error when you start windows, but I'm not sure if that's fatal or not--it hasn't been for us, at least. I use Windows 3.0 pretty regularly in the Dos box of my OS/2 machine, with little problem. The major problem, really, is adjusting the Control-Esc, etc., key combinations such that you can get OUT of your DOS box again :-) Keep in mind: if you've purchased OS/2 from IBM, and not Microsoft, you'll need to acquire three "magic files" to let Windows 3 run on a lan. Don't worry, these are freebies. I can mail them to you, if you want. *****I'm not sure if you need these for stand-alone machine.***** I'm posting because your e-mail address looks rather intimidating. You can try e-mailing me, if you'd like to pursue this; I realize I haven't provided many details. Phil Tracy Academic Computing, Northwestern University tracy@casbah.acns.nwu.edu (312) 503-1536
