[comp.os.os2.misc] OS/2 Lan Manager Performance

oadmin@uswin1.Dayton.NCR.COM (oadmin) (01/31/91)

We have installed an OS/2 Lan Manager server on a NCR PC486. Then, while
using Norton's Network Drive Benchmark Test, we discovered that the
performance writing to the disk drops from around 46.2K/sec all the way down
to 1.2K/sec. We simply performed the test one after the other. Now, the
client is running DOS PC Lan. As soon as the performance drops, it stays
that low.

We changed the PRIORITY=ABSOLUTE on the server but that seemed to only delay
the performance drop.

On the other hand, the READ performance was around 64.3K/sec and remained
relatively constant throughout the entire test.

Any ideas on fixes to this problem? It is causing us real problems on clients
that write alot to the network disks.
