OK, so I just read the Byte magazine review of OS/2 SE 1.13 (I hope I got that right, the SE stands for "standard edition"). Byte gave it a highly favorable review, saying that IBM did what Microsoft could not, streamlining OS/2 and making it so that it could run in 2 MB instead of 4. With just 2 MB, one can run two large apps and still be running at good speed. (However, the thing does take up 11 MB of hard disk if installed completely, won't let you use HPFM unless you make your hard disk bootable as OS/2 only, and uses mondo disk caching to save on RAM usage.) This means that even I could run OS/2 now on my 286 clone with 2 MB and have significant speed. From the photo insets, I'd say the interface has a nice Windows-like feel. And OS/2 `lite' (as most people prefer to call it) is apparently a lot more stable than Windows as a multitasking environment, which is good for critical background tasks. I'd like to upgrade to this. Anyone have any advice? -- Robert P.
