[comp.os.os2.misc] Help with Serial ports and interrupts

Keywords: Dell 386/33, Everex Magic I/O

I have a Dell 386/33 configured stock with 2 serial ports, COM1 and
COM2. Also installed is an Everex Magic I/O board. System is running
IBM OS/2 V1.2 with device set as COM01.SYS in the config file. The
I/O board serial defaults (COM1/2) were left undistirbed.

Here's my problem: The system is running a sheet metal cutting program
that downloads, through a bit driver at both ends, cutting info and
patterns to a cutting table. The table is supposed to access any
sheet of a multi-sheet job, however it won't. It will download and it
WILL receive the first sheet and do subsequent sheets but only
in order. Further, if you complete a sheet, move on to a different job,
then try to go back to where you left off in the first job, you can't.
You must cycle through each sheet to get to the one you want. My
guess, and the product's (called Vulcan) support person's guess is a
serial port conflict.

Proposed solution: Set the I/O board to COM4 and run the program off
that port. I changed the program set-up to use serial port #4 and
changed the jumpers on the I/O board to use COM4. No real change,
HOWEVER, it did work ONCE on initial start-up! We were able to
go directly to sheet 2 and bypass sheet 1. Nada after that.

Here's what I want to know: 1) Do I need to disable COM2 on the
				 I/O board as well?

			     2) Do I need to disable any other I/O
				 board interrupts?

			     3) Should I disable ALL the serial
ports and interrupts on the I/O
board and just go back to using
				 COM1 on the system?

			     4) Should I take cyanide or just
				 shoot me bloody self? :-)

Thanks!!!
