                      TAPR Announces TNC 2
                               or
The Rumors You Heard About Dayton Were True!

Tucson Amateur Packet Radio (TAPR) proudly announces a low-cost, no-
compromise Terminal Node Controller (TNC), the TAPR TNC 2.

TNC 2 is a complete packet radio controller, incorporating the experience
gained in supplying nearly 2500 TNCs to the world's Radio Amateurs.

TNC 2 utilizes the proven TAPR modem design with a switched capacitor
input filter and plug-in headers to configure the on-board modem for
various modes of operation, including 1200 baud, 1000 Hz shift and 300
baud, 200 Hz shift.

TNC 2 is based on a CMOS version of the popular Z80 microprocessor, and
utilizes the Z80 SIO with a state machine to implement the HDLC NRZI
packet format required by the AX.25 Level Two standard. The 8 k bytes of
RAM are backed with a Lithium battery to retain all stored commands and
operating parameters.

TNC 2 's software provides enhanced monitor mode, full support of the
AX.25 Level two protocol, including Version 2.0, and other evolutionary
features.

TNC 2 operates from a 12 volt dc (nominal) power source and is significantly
smaller than the previous TAPR TNC (now called TNC 1).

TNC 2 is curently in field testing and is expected to be released during
the summer. At a price of only $185 for the complete kit, including cabinet,
high performance packet radio operation is now affordable by most Amateurs.

PLEASE NOTE: TAPR is not accepting orders for TNC 2 at this time.
No waiting list is being maintained.
