There are current only versions 1.x been released. That includes
versions from 1.0 to 1.3. Version 2.0 is still in the Beta Stage. It will
be released soon. IBM completely took over the development of OS/2 2.0
since January 15 (I think). Version 3.0 is currently under development at
Microsoft. I am not sure who version 3.0 will belong to, but the word so far
is that it belongs to Microsoft only. This is the version that Microsoft
has made such big promise about. But I wouldn't count on it.

As for the benefits and drawbacks of each version, here is the list.

Ver. 1.0 - Nothing special, just a new technology.

Ver. 1.1 - Presentation Manager has been added, but it is still a 16-bit
		  operating system.

Ver. 1.2 - Not much different from version 1.1, still 16-bit.

Ver. 1.2 - Adobe Type Manager is added. A new asynchronous communication
manager is added. It looks nicer than the versions before.
		  But it is still 16-bit.

Ver. 2.0 - Currently at the beta stage. This is a true 32-bit operating
system. This is what everyone has been waiting for since
OS/2 ever existed. This version will run everything including
different versions of DOS, Windows applications, and all PM
		  applications.

Ver. 3.0 - Currently at the promise stage at Microsoft. What a shame.
This version, according MS's promises, will be portable.
Which means that it will be available on all platforms of
hardware. It just sounds too good to be true. I just hope
that they won't do the same like they did to version 2.0.
In case you didn't know, MS has made lots of promise about
OS/2 ver. 2.0, and then suddenly release Windows, and turn
over and say they'll leave it to IBM. What a promise !
