[comp.os.os2.misc] Adding 3rd & 4th Floppies in OS/2

ogrady@ECN.PURDUE.EDU (Michael P. O'Grady) (06/22/91)

All:

I am new to this OS/2 thing, and I have a few questions... (I don't actually
have OS/2, I'm a student and saving my $$$ to get it :-( )

I have a 1.44 meg a: drive and a 1.2 meg b: drive. I have been thinking about
getting an "add on" floppy controller so I can use my extra 360K as drive
C:. (of course moving my HD's to D: and E:) I understand they have built in
brains on the card. This is OK for dos, but will they work with os/2 as well?
I have a limited budget, (I just bought the computer and then had to
turn around and buy an Air Conditioner = Me Poor) so I dont want to spend
the $50 or so dollars and then have to pull the card because it makes os/2
puke. I don't use the 360K very much, but it is handy for giving files to
people that refuse to joing the ninety's :-) (A JOKE!! I had 360's until
about 2 months ago!!)

In Brief, I would like a secondary floppy controller to allow me to use my
360K (and especially the possibility of adding the newly supported 2.88 mg
drives) with dos *and* os/2. Is this possible?

Names and numbers of manufacturers and dealers especially welcome.

Other pertinent info: MYLEX 486/25 Eisa motherboard, BIG tower case (11 billion
drive bays), Herc mono card (VGA will probably come before os2), Seagate
st22 RLL HD/FL controller, 65 M st277, 32M st238, 6Meg ram (4 on motherboard,
2 on an old TALLTREE AT memory board), gameblaster card. etc...

Thanx a meg!
MOg

P.S. Reply here or in email. Both are acceptable to me.

PPS: Special thanx to the IBMers who like to shed light on os/2. I try
not to follow the adage that "No good deed will ever go unpunished."

Just thought that I'd bring it to your attention, if it has not already been
done so, that PM will not run on a herculese screen. You can use the herc as
a second monitor (as a mono monitor) but not as your main display. Because of
this, you would HAVE to get a VGA before going to OS/2.
