[comp.os.os2.misc] My Early Experience with IBM

ogrady@ECN.PURDUE.EDU (Michael P. O'Grady) (07/01/91)

For those of you who wish to follow my progress through the process of becoming
an Early Experience Program person, Here is PART 2:

In our last episode, our hero decided to try to become a member of the
OS/2 beta team. After a couple of telephone calls to local IBM dealers,
I found one worthy soul that agreed to help me in my quest. But alas, the
poor soul didn't understand what os/2 or the Early experience program was.

Now that a few dozen calls were made on my behalf by my IBM rep, (and a
few dozen more calls were made on IBM's side while she was on hold) It was
found that IBM actually did have a beta program available for OS/2 ver 2.0.
Now that that was finally settled, it was also determined that the beta
package was ~~50 US$ . "Great!," I said. "How do I order?" "Well, there
is one pretty big snag." "Uh Oh, I thought! Here is where they lower the
boom!"
"This package isn't available to "regular people" (Her words exactly One must
become a member of IBM's development assistance program."
"How do I do that??" I asked.
"No one seems to know." she replied. "Here is a number for you to call and
try to get some information."

I called the number, and got a recorded message. It stated that the lady in
charge of the developers assistance program wouldn't be available until
July 9. But the calls would be answered by people in the office. I left my
name and telephone address at the beep.

Just to be sure, I also contacted my local IBM rep at the university. Left
another message at the beep. By this time it is 4:30pm EST. (We don't do
daylight savings here). Maybe more info to pass along on monday.

For those who care, my room-mate posted this (and the last couple) for me...
Engineers have year-round accounts, Computer Science majors do not.
Go Figure.
