Just thought I'd second Bob Parnass' pointer to Newkirk's new "Enjoying Radio" publication. I was going to hold off on a real recommendation until I see another issue or two, just to insure that it is viable enough to last for at least the initial year's subscription, but I did find the first issue interesting. One slight quibble -- it is printed in "reverse format", so the pages open to the left, like a Chinese book, ostensibly to provide space for hole-punching to keep it in a binder, but the margins are too small for hole-punching in my opinion. Another new publication is Radio Equipment Review. This is designed to be a successor to the old San Diego DXers Club newsletter, which disappeared when Larry Brookwell, who ran the SDDXC as sort of a one-man operation, died. That newsletter always emphasized equipment news and evaluations. This new publication is designed to continue in that tradition. I've sent it an edited compilation of some of the stuff I've posted here on portable receivers, for use in a future issue. The first issue of RER was mainly devoted to the Icom R-71A. It is available for $2 per issue, up to a 6-issue-subscription (for example, I sent $6 for the first three issues). Address: Radio Equipment Review Ronald Pokatiloff 2661 Sheridan Road Zion, IL 60099 (312) 872-3633 Another product Mr. Pokatiloff is putting out is a Commodore 64 program which contains a comprehensive schedule of English-language shortwave broadcasts for the 2300-0700 GMT period. The program, on cassette, is $15, and a printout of the output is $5. Regards, Will Martin ARPA/MILNET: wmartin@almsa-1.ARPA USENET: seismo!brl-bmd!wmartin
