[net.ham-radio] HD4040

Okay on the NOVRAM. I haven't had any problem with that. As a matter of
fact the thing went together, calibrated, and ran by the book. I haven't
tried any of the other baud rates. I am running 1200 baud on 145.01 using
an Epson Geneva lap computer for control. As soon as I figure out my
RS232 problem, I'll put it on the 64 with the monitor and virtual disk
storage. Heathkit has informed me that the HA4040 was tested with a 64
using the Commodore 1012A RS232 interface and a straight-through RS232
cable with pins 1-8 and 20 active. So, I can only assume that the MSD
interface is not quite Commodore capatible for all pinouts. Heath also
informed me that a technical data sheet is available for putting together
the filter for using the TNC on Oscar and HF. Apparently there is no special
300 baud modem kit as identified in the catalog. Its merely a different
filter that plugs in. Also, the 6264 8K RAM is the only additional RAM
that can be supported for a total of 16K (only 10K total for storage).
The spec I believe mentions 16K for a total of 24K, but that is incorrect.
The extra RAM is available as KIT # ETA-18-6 for $24.95 from Heath. I am
sure you can get that RAM elsewhere for much less!
