[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] New Interrupt List available

ralf@b.gp.cs.cmu.edu (Ralf Brown) (07/16/90)

Release 90.3 of the MSDOS interrupt list is now available by anonymous FTP
from:
	cs.cmu.edu [128.2.222.173] in /afs/cs/user/ralf/pub
	grape.ecs.clarkson.edu in /f/uploads
	chyde.uwasa.fi in /incoming
and soon
	wsmr-simtel20.army.mil in PD1:<MSDOS.INFO>

It has been submitted to comp.binaries.ibm.pc and will hopefully appear soon.

The major additions since 90.2 include the DOS Protected Mode Interface, the
DESQview External Device Interface, and more undocumented DOS calls.

You can't get to the /afs directory (or below) via anonymous ftp.

Always busy

I guess I'll wait...

You have to use

not

It is correct to say that you can't access /afs/cs/user/ralf or *above* by
anonFTP.

I got through on the first try when I uploaded....

To those having problems using anonymous ftp to cs.cmu.edu [128.2.222.173] to
download the msdos interrupt list, here's how to do it :
by anonymous ftp, it is true that you do not have access to /afs,
but you can type cd /afs/cs/user/ralf/pub directly from the ftp prompt. This
works, I just did it. Try it, you'll like it.

And why not? It hardly makes a longer walk, or does it? :-) :-) :-)

(P.S. It is now in directory /pc/doc as my fellow moderator posted.)

[Concerning those sites that are always busy].
Hmm. I just downloaded it from wuarchive.wustl.edu
in directory /mirrors/msdos/info/inter390.zip

233751 bytes received in 67 seconds (3.4 Kbytes/s)

Not bad :^)

I guess not. It's just that my mom's from Finland, and it takes her a *long
time* to go home and visit family. Too bad she can't travel by Internet :-)

Oh, and thanks to all the people who pointed out that you could cd directly
to /afs/cs/user/ralf/pub on cs.cmu.edu... I got the interrupt list from there.

I've put a copy of the interrupt list in pub on sunee.uwaterloo.ca, for
people in the Ontario region who want to grab it without burdening the net
excessively...

wuarchive had been promising for a while that they were installing a 1Mbit/s
line and should be operational by mid-july. Looks like it is up and running
right on schedule.

Use of autoftp can be advocated. Besides saving the users own time
and nerves, it cuts the inevitable inactivity periods during an
interactive anonymous ftp.

Pardon my ignorance but if it is a list, why would it be posted to a binary
group?

Because there is no comp.doc.ibm.pc or even comp.sources.ibm.pc, and none of
the other PC-related groups are archived :-(

One could claim that it *does* belong because there is a binary executable
included in the archive....

In part, because is is a HUGE file, and it saves a considerable amount of
bandwidth to compress it, which has the effect of converting it into a
binary file, which must be uuencoded to be posted. This makes the binary
group the most appropriate place to post this file.

So, when can those of use who don't have ftp expect to see this list show
up on c.b.i.p??? (Soon, I hope, before it is completely out of date.)
