Those of you who aren't willing to accept the 2 or 3 computer limit of the $25 Network might want to consider BP-LAN. BP-LAN is a $39.95 zero-slot network than comes with the complete with a tutorial book, executable programs, and source code. The current version supports up to 16 simultaneous users (up to 64 if one line of code is changed, and the source is recompiled). Several educational institutions and government agencies are using BP-LAN to teach about networks. An ARCNET version of BP-LAN, which supports up to 255 computers, has been in beta-test for four months, and should be available sometime in September. This new version supports IBM PC LAN file locking, and "Novell-like" file security. An eight node BP-LAN ARCNET network may be installed for as little as $800 (not including the price of the server computer). BP-LAN is available from M&T Publishing in the form of a book titled, "Blueprint of a LAN." Waldenbooks also sells the book.
