[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] PS/1 and Tandy 1000RL

RFM@psuvm.psu.edu (07/27/90)

Stopped in at a local Radio Shack tonight, looked over the new RL --
Tandy's latest effort at "Home" Computers. I'm unimpressed. It comes
with 512k, CGA, and an 8086 chip, plus one 3 1/2 drive. It has a nice
front-end in ROM, sort of an enhanced version of their GUI -- I forget
its name. I might suggest it to a family who's feeling some guilt
because their children don't have a computer, but not to anyone who's
serious about applications -- a home/office interface sort of situation.
   I've also looked over a PS/1's specs. 1-meg, a 286 chip, 30-meg HD,
VGA (I think???) monitor, a 3 1/2 drive. I'll betcha a lot of
businesses will end up getting these systems as secretarial workstations
as well as recommending them as home/office interface machines. They look
like serious sqstems.
My opinion, etc. I'm not an IBM-lover, either.
