[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Wester Digital WD1007V-SE2 v. UltraStor ESDI controller - opinions?

bach@vax1.acs.udel.EDU (Baskaran Subramaniam) (07/31/90)

A friend of mine is getting a 660MByte Micropolis ESDI harddrive for her
386-25Mhz computer. She is going to using it to store hires images
captured by her video digitizer equipment, and use them in her research.

I am helping her shop around for the Harddisk and acontroller and kind of
decided to get a Micropolis full-height ESDI 660 Meg harddrive. The mail-order
vender sells a kit with an Ultrastor ESDI controller. I thought of getting
a Western Digital WD1007V-SE2 controller. Could some knowledgeable netters
please tell me the pros and cons of getting either of these controllers?

I would be particularly interested in hearing from people who have used them,
though any opinions from others who have shopped around for an ESDI controller
would be useful.

Thanks,
