[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] How to repair COMPAQ keyboard

pauls@inco.UUCP (Paul Stygar) (08/11/90)

After our COMPAQ keyboard stopped working,
it was something of a shock to discover the going price to repair
the fella was $350 plus the old keyboard.

Considering that one can buy a brand new keyboard for $30-$70,
for a PC Clone, one begins to understand why COMPAQ does not use
the standard keyboard connector for its keyboards.

Solution: COMPAQ uses the same keyboard connector as MacIntosh,
so buy a PC-to-MAC keyboard adaptor
(to convert the 5 pin to a 6 pin connector),
and whalla ... now connect a standard PC Clone keyboard ...

Hey, it works for me.
