[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] 386SX and 386DX

v133mxap@ubvmsd.cc.buffalo.edu (Joseph Sarkis) (08/17/90)

In some of the earlier posts I remember a discussion concerning 386SX's
and 386DX's. I can no longer access them, so could someone please list
the differences among the two types of chips and systems, and if possible
the advantages and disadvantages of each

       Thanks. Joe S.

OK, here it is.
	SX DX
16 data lines	32 data lines
24 addr lines	32 addr lines
max mem=16Meg	max mem=4Gig

Internally the chips are the same and will run the same software (if it
doesn't use more than 16 meg). For those fetches that are 32 bit, the
SX will be slower, of course.

PS there is a co-proc for the SX also (80387sx).
