[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Desqview and SideKick+ incompatibilities?

jpalmer@uwovax.uwo.ca (The Econoclast) (08/18/90)

I recently upgraded to a 386-25 with 8 megs of ram. Until now, I've been
using Software Carousel to task switch on a 286 with 4megs of ram, but
I guess it's time to start multitasking. But so far no luck.

I have windows 3.0, but when I try to run it in enhanced mode, the screen
goes blank. I have an ATIVIP graphics card and a TTL monitor. I'm hoping
that ATI's new drivers will solve that problem.

My preference, though, is to use Desqview, so I borrowed a copy of 2.25
to try it. It has problems with SideKick+ and with WordPerfect 5.0 in
43-line mode. Are these known problems? Have they been fixed in 2.26? I
am not interested in buying DV with these problems.

John,

Try going into Change a Program, and be sure the "Writes directly to
screen" and (if you want to run the programs in a DV window)
"Virtualize test/graphics" fields are set to Y. Then, go to the
second screen, and set "Maximum rows" to 43. I've tried this with
WordPerfect 5.0 running under DV 2.26, with a *V*GA, and it works OK.
I presume the same applies to Sidekick+, but haven't tested it.

By the way WordPerfect works fine in 25-line mode with the "Writes directly to
screen" and "Virtualize test/graphics" fields set to N. Indeed, this
is the optimum setting in this case, since screen writes are faster.
