Question : I have a Conner ide drive that I've pulled out of a co-worker's Compaq 386 portable. The drive is a cp-3101 100 meg drive. I purchased a conner ide host adapter to use the drive in another machine. When I boot up the new machine, I get a hard disk failure (not a hard disk controller failure...) Conner claims that the cp-3101 was made for Compaq and has "custom microcode" on it. The say it's hit or miss whether it will work on a machine. Does anyone out there have any ideas as to how the heck I can get this custom microcoded drive to work on a vanilla 386? Please reply, this poor drive is looking for a home inside my pc. Mitch.
