[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Motherboards, Coherent

boutell@freezer.it.udel.edu (Tom Boutell) (08/24/90)

A couple of things...

- I just ordered a 286-12 XT- footprint motherboard from JDR Microdevices
to put in my old XT, along with a 200 watt power supply and a meg of RAM.
Anything else I can't get by without? (Oh yes, I also ordered an AT
style keyboard. Rather important, that.) They instructed me to tell the
setup software there is no hard drive installed, in order to get it to
notice my XT- style hard drive controller instead of attempting to find
an AT controller. Does this sound right?

- I'm interested in getting Coherent. For $99, it looks like a dream
come true- a hacker's Unix, comfortable in one meg on a machine like
mine, with UUCP and an ANSI C compiler standard. But is it gonna be
willing to install on my XT hard drive/ controller? I'm guessing it
won't be happy.
