I installed Norton 5.0 today (as a matter of fact). It does have a low level format. Many of the changes appear to be for interactive use of the utilities. FFis now a combination of the old FF and grep. There is a Disk monitor program DISKMON that runs as a TSR and will popup with a warning anytime something is going to be written to disk. Unfortunatelt I tried doing a simple copy and a popup warned me 3 times that I was attempting to write to disk. This utility is supposed to help prevent virus infection, but it seems like more of a pain to me. There are a lot of nice things about 5.0 though. I can't really compare them to SPINRITE since I've never used it. The NDD has been upgraded too, and you can now edit a disk even if it isn't a DOS disk. On the other hand, you still can't delete directories that have subdirectories. I really wish Norton had the equivalent prune and graft utilities that QDOS II has. I'm not sure I answered your question though? Gads!!! I'm rambling!!! I'm going to have to stop reading J. Pournelle or I'll start having the urge to start talking about my personal life!
