Hi all, I rec'd 4.01 with my new machine, installed it and immediately
got a totally corrupted FAT.Luckily I had just restored everything from
our server since I had stored everything in tar format so I could made
the transfer. What did I do -- stupid me I tried again. Again,
totally trashed hard disk. So I phoned MS and was told that my SCSI
drive (207MB formatted Maxtor XLS?) should work no problem. I phoned
MAxtor and was told the same thing. Since I don't like large
partitions I had already partitioned everything into 32Mb partitions so
that shouldn't have been the problem.
This story continued on for about a week and I finally got 4.01 to work
by deleting (stomping, traching, overwriting) and otherwise totally
getting rid of SHARE. My next big suprise was how much memory 4.01
takes. With 4.01 loaded I could no longer run two of my programs --
CADKEY which (honestly) needs 600K to even load and a homebrew program
which is probably a memory allocation glitch.
What did I do, I went back to 3.3. If anyone wants it I'll let 4.01 go
for a reasonable price <less than market>. No shrinkwrap but also very
little in the way to tear and wear!!!!!
So if you want 4.01 for less than market let me know.
