Some time ago I asked a question about using the hardware combination of the Adaptec 1542A scsi adapter and the Wangtek 5150ES tape drive under dos. Surprisingly I didn't receive any reply at all. On the other hand I received a request to share the information when I find out, so here we go: The above hardware combination CAN work very nicely under dos, but you need two pieces of software from Adaptec. The first one is the backup software which is actualy the SY-TOS tape operating system (SCSI version). I am not sure if the version sold under the adaptec catalog number is different than the Sytron version. The second piece of software is a dos device driver that serves as the layer between the SCSI hardware and the software. It is a very usefull device driver that has more purposes than just tape backups. Adaptec's catalog numbers follow: SY-TOS: ASW-210 ASPI MS-DOS Manager with ASPI Disk module: ASW-1410 When you get all the software install it and make sure you have a tape in the drive BEFORE you run SY-TOS, or the program will fail with a weired message and bomb out to dos without releasing its memory. -- Avi -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= _ o avi@chinet.chi.il.us / )/ _ Avi GEnie mail - A.SCHWARTZ / / /| / | Schwartz Compu$erve - 71350,2006
