I was mucking around with my DOS system files last night (IBMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM), trying to upgrade from 3.10 to 3.30. I figured I could just delete these files and then copy over the new ones. (I used XTREE to change the read-only attribute.) Well, it didn't quite work right, and now, I can't even get my old system files back on. I get an error message, 'Insufficent disk space', or something like that. My guess is I somehow overwrote the specific disk sectors where my BIOS expects to find DOS on bootup. Does anyone know of a way for me to re-install DOS without having to backup my whole hard-disk, re-format it, SYS it, and restore all the files? Thanks! -AZ --

In DOS 3.3, the two files needn't be in the first few sectors, although SYS will fail if it can't put them there. If those sectors are free (or almost enough of them), you can just copy them onto the hard disk. -- _ Kevin D.
