[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] How to tell a 286 from a 386

@hitech.ht.oz.au (09/11/90)

Can anybody offer suggestions on how a program can determine if it is running
on an 80286 or an 80386 WITHOUT setting up an illegal instruction trap?

Please e-mail responses (no incoming news at present).

Thanks.

I have some code in assembly that will accomplish this. If you have echoarc,
I can send it via the message, it is real short. If not, I can send the C
code for echoarc (short source).
