[net.ham-radio] Vertical antenna's

piermarini@pisces.DEC (The Faster You go the more fun it is) (06/14/85)

I recently picked up a cushcraft vertical antenna from someone
and i am now unsure as to what type of ground plane to use.
Screen is out because i would have to dig up the lawn since it is
mounted about 2 feet off the ground. but how many radials should i put in
?? how few can i get away with?? I have read some different books and have
come up with different answers . is there anyone out there who can fill me
in?

Check the June 1985 issue of QST for an article on vertical antennas.
The article describes the effect of the number of radials, soil conductivity,
length of radials, angle of radiation etc. Maybe it will give you some ideas.
Let me know how you like it as I am interested in possibly getting one myself.
