for reasons entirely beyond my control, i find myself using a gen-yoo-ine IBM PC/AT (running DOS 3.1) with a PGA ("Professional Graphics Display"). there's a standard serial port into which i've plugged a standard Hayes Smartmodem 2400 baud ... and i find that 2400 baud is really quite unusable (every 3rd-4th character seems to be dropped at that speed) and at 1200 baud this condition occurs sporadically. i'm told that this is due to an interaction between the serial port and the PGA ... and that some comms programs do the right thing wrt this issue (i'm using MS-DOS Kermit 3.*, and this problem occurs with an ancient version of pckermit (ver 1.1-ish) too). clues would be welcome. cheers, # Henry Mensch / <henry@garp.mit.edu> / E40-379 MIT, Cambridge, MA # <hmensch@uk.ac.nsfnet-relay> / <henry@tts.lth.se> / <mensch@munnari.oz.au> # via X.400: S=mensch; OU=informatik; P=tu-muenchen; A=dbp; C=de
