[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Initializing memory

desmond@cod.NOSC.MIL (J. Desmond) (09/24/90)

Can anyone tell me how to fill memory with a known bit pattern to
see the effect on programs loaded on top of it? I fiddled with
DEBUG for a while and it looked promising but I'm afraid I might
blow away something since I've never been very agile with DEBUG's
instruction and addressing scheme. Can a large (200K or more)
chunk of memory be initialized with one instruction, or do you
have to limp along changing 64K at a time? Is there a SIMTEL
utility that does this or can it be done with a simple DEBUG
script? I think I've seen it in a PC Magazine a few years back
but can't find it now. Thanks.
