[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] QEMM 5.0 == slow hard disk?

osyjm@caesar.cs.montana.edu (Jaye Mathisen) (09/26/90)

Zenith 386/20, BIOS version ranging from 3.30.8 to 3.30.14, DOS 3.3+, and QEMM
5.0, DEC DEPCA-Turbo Ethernet card, at D000-DFFF, 70 meg ESDI disk

If I run coretest on this machine with no config.sys or autoexec, I get
data transfer rates of appx 1 megabyte / second.

If I create a config.sys that has the line:

device=\qemm\qemm.sys ram /adapterram=d000-dfff

reboot, and run coretest, my transfer rates drops to about 70K/second.

DIR's crawl across the screen, etc.

Is this a problem with Zenith BIOS? QEMM 5.0? Is it fixed in 5.1? weirdness
in the network adapter? Is this a known problem? It does it on 5 different
machines that we've tested it on, and it's very consistent...

Please e-mail responses, and I'll summarize and post if demand warrants.
