[net.ham-radio] packet radio

The best bet for obtaining the Vancouver implementation of AX.25 is to
write to Hank Magnuski, KA6M. He will send you a 8" CPM disk with source
in return for a modest donation to AMSAT.

The software may be distributed for noncommercial (i.e., amateur radio) use
but those receiving copies are also strongly urged to make a donation to
AMSAT.

Dear network,

I wonder if anyone out there has any information on the AX-25 'standard'
for packet radio. Work on that is just in its early stages over here, and
I had heard that this packet format was in use in the USA.

Being unable to talk to the states on the radio (I'm only a "B" license here,
which means above 144MHz only), I thought that I might use other means to
get in touch with anyone who might be able to tell me something about it.

Any and all information or references would be gratefully received.

P.S. -- Why is there hardly any traffic on net.ham-radio ?

I'm an amateur radio operator but I've been inactive for some
time. Lately, I've been thinking of getting back on the air and I
thought it would be nice to get into packet radio.

I've noticed that there are many programs on Simtel20 related to
Ham Radio but I was wondering, what kind of hardware do I need
(besides a Transmitter-Receiver) in order to get started? Where can I
get it? How much do I have to spend?

I know I'm asking an awful lot of questions but, if you could
just steer me in the general direction of some answers I would be most
grateful. Thanks very much.

I, for one, am real tired of seeing so many articles on packet radio on the
net. It's refreshing to see anything other than this tripe. Sure, it might be
the wave of the future but, I really doubt it. I own a computer that is link-
ed (excuse me... Interfaced) to my rig but, I'd rather have a one-on-one QSO
WID TH OM (or OW) AT TH OTHER END ._._._
