Regarding the problem with mailing to >1 group and the '-' command: We were told, understandably, that to mail to each group individually is a waste of the readers' time. What do we do? ]

In version 2.9, at least, the only "-" comand that does not work is plain old "-" by itself; "s-" and "w-" work fine. Just get in the habit of doing "h-" before attempting "-", to see if it has multiple groups. So if you must post to multiple newsgroups, do it in the same article, and ignore Tim's suggestion. If you don't have 2.9, beat on your admin.

I agree that right-justified text looks nice, but it doesn't strike me as being 'friendly'. I would suggest that filling is a good idea, but justifying is not; if nothing else, it increases the volume of data that the poor net must handle (since every line of a justified message has extra embedded blanks that don't increase the information content).

Instead of not using multiple newsgroups because of a bug in readnews, the logical thing is to FIX THE BUG! I have fixed this bug in our local version of readnews and have posted that fix to the net once. I have recently received a request to repost it and will do so if I get anymore such requests. If not, I will just mail the changes to the person who requested them. If you want the fix, please drop me a line. - Eric Bustad (machaids!ekb)
