Thanks to the seven people who responded to my query. Out of the seven responses, five told me to get out. Three people said basically that '286's were passe' or almost so and to go for a '386; two told me not to walk, but run, screaming, away from Damark. This may or may not be easy... The Friday after I posted my question, the system arrived. However, it was not a Packard Bell - Damark had arranged a substitution, a Headstart III. It looked like a pretty decent system, with a lot of software that the Packard Bell system didn't offer. So anyway, I decide to hook the thing up and see what it looked like. Well, I never found out. The monitor was blank. Either the monitor was defective or it was not getting a video signal. Now I had an excuse to return the system and start looking for one with a '386. I called Damark and told them I'd be returning the system. On the sheet of paper describing the substitution, they said the system could be returned at no cost to me. Hm. I don't know how they'll arrange that, but I probably won't wait very long before I decide just to send the thing back myself and be rid of it. Now. A local dealer is advertising a '386sx (16 MHz) system with VGA color card and monitor (.31 mm dot pitch), 1 MB RAM upgradable to 8 MB, 5 available expansion slots, 5-1/4" and 3-1/2" floppy drives, 40 MB hard disk with 28 ms access time, 2 serial ports, 1 parallel port, 150 watt power supply, MS-DOS 4.01. The price: $1500. The brand? Trac. Now, net people, you've been so helpful with my last question... What can you tell me about Trac?
