I called Microsoft's customer support number yesterday to get help on some additional information on a topic, and was told they now have a new policy on phone calls. If you have questions about QB 4.0 or lower, you have to now call a 900 number; and if its a question on 4.5, they will only answer setup questions; any technical questions must go to the 900 number. The charge is $2 a minute. The reason they gave for the change, was they needed to free up the lines. This sounds like a farce to me, since if thats so, why not just add extra lines? I think this is a bad policy. It has certainly soured me toward buying any more Microsoft language products. From now on, I'll go with Borland. [Tim]

I think it's bad policy, too. But Borland is no better and is even worse.
(I have a long story about Turbo Prolog v 1.0, but I'll spare you the
disgusting details unless you're really interested. Suffice it to say that
Borland wasn't interested in customer service--and I'll never purchase
another Borland product.)
Why not write a letter to Microsoft? You paid for customer support when
you bought the software, and they didn't say anything about 900 numbers
at the time. I've found Microsoft to be reasonable; write them a letter.
