[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] ==> PC Disk Controller Weirdness!

jma7759@cec1.wustl.edu (10/16/90)

My PC is sick and I have run out of things to try. Can anyone
help??

It all started when I could not read from either of my
floppy drives. When trying to do a "dir" I would get a "Data
Error Reading Drive x:", I cannot format either 'A:' or 'B:' and
cannot boot from the 'A' drive. Thinking it was my controller I
tried it in a friend's PC, it worked fine.

After a running for a while without any floppy drives I
noticed strange things have started to happen. The minutes on my
clock are ticking away like seconds and when powering up my Mouse
Systems mouse driver says that it cannot find the mouse.

I have tried:

  * My controller in a friends PC. It works fine.
  * My controller in differant slots. Still no floppy drives.
  * Checked all power supplt voltages. All correct.
  * Removing all boards except the
display card and disk controller. No differance.
  * My floppy drives in friends PC. They work fine.

Could it be the BIOS, or maybe the Motherboard?
Would it be cheaper to buy a new Mother Board or to get this
one fixed?
Is there something else I should try to level it down?

I don't know who makes my 286/12 motherboard but I do have
AMI BIOS.
