Hi, I have an application where I get printed material (say a phone bill), that must be turned into a machine readable (ascii) form. Currently we type it in by hand :-( . . . I started looking a Scanners and OCR packages, but I don't really know that much about the market. What I need to know is what is good and what isn't. Who makes scanners? How good is OCR these days. Do I HAVE to have a full page scanner since the vertical alignment is important (on say a phone bill to align the phone number with the $$$$) or is a half page scanner OK since the software can compensate for me? I know NOTHING! Who is using what and how do you like it? (If there is interest I will post a summary.) Frank frank@odetics.com
