[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] How do you do your large

dkeber@umaxc.weeg.uiowa.edu (Dave Keber) (10/18/90)

I have a friend who just started working for a company. They are moving from
a mini-system to networked IBM PC compatibles. They have recently purchased
an optical drive (500M capacity/cartridge). The problem they are running into
is that they want to be able to back up all their data files at the end of each
day, and then do a weekly backup, but currently each daily backup is running
from 100-500M. Optical cartridges are not in abundance. Using PKZIP cuts down
the size of the backups, but they still are large enough to be a problem.
I was wondering what backup options there are for the IBM PC family. Is
there anything like Sterling Software's DMS (IBM 370 mainframes) that will do
the job on an IBM PC? Any info is appreciated!
