[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Logitech Mouse & Windows 3.0/WP5.1

akerman@qucis.queensu.CA (Richard Akerman) (10/22/90)

I am trying to help a friend set up his PC system. Please EMAIL any responses
as I do not regularly/ever read this newsgroup.

He has an IBM PC clone with 386, VGA, 640K main and 1064K extended memory.
He also has a Logitech (serial) mouse and Windows 3.0 as well as WordPerfect
5.1.

He is a summary of what I have tried.

Using MOUSE.COM in AUTOEXEC.BAT and the mouse in COM1, the mouse only works
with WP (set to mouse driver MOUSE.COM) & PopDos if you use "MOUSE 2". If the
mouse is in COM2, only "MOUSE" will work. In either configuration Windows 3.0
won't work.

I set Windows to "Logitech serial mouse" (I've tried the other drivers but they
don't work at all with the Logitech mouse).
Windows will work if you set DEVICE=C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.SYS /2 in CONFIG.SYS (with
mouse in COM2) but then WordPerfect doesn't work even if set to "Logitech
serial mouse". I find all of this very bizzare and it has wasted a great deal
of my time. I had a similar problem with the COM ports when setting up a
Logitech trackball for another friend with a Toshiba laptop.

Can anyone tell me how to set up the system so that the mouse will work with
WordPerfect 5.1 AND Windows 3.0 _at_ _the_ _same_ _time?_

As I said before, please EMAIL responses.
