[net.ham-radio] coarse language on the net

jhs%Mitre-Bedford@d3unix.UUCP (07/22/85)

One of the things I (used to) like about ham radio was that most hams
were pretty careful not to use coarse language on the air, in part because
the FCC was pretty adamant about this issue.

I have noticed a sudden rash of "off-color" words on the net in recent days.
I for one would like to see us all be a little more careful on this point.
What is perhaps acceptable in casual conversation comes off sounding pretty
coarse in print, even electron-excited phosphorescent print.

When coarse language is really intended, maybe something like #@$%&!!! will
convey the meaning.

I hope there is enough agreement on this subject that this comment will not
be considered out of place.
