[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Two EGA "cards" in one PC

fayne@tellabs.com (Jeffrey Fayne) (11/06/90)

I am looking for suggestion/recommendations on EGA or VGA boards that allow
one PC to run two color monitors. Each monitor will be displaying a
diferent graphics page while in the 640x350 16-color mode. Since I am
writing the code for this application, I will have control over
which monitor each page will be displayed on.

I remember hearing of such a beast but I can't recall where.

                        Thanks,
                                Jeff

For documentation, there's a book entitle, "Video Systems for the PC and
PS2." (I think that's the title) Its by one of the authors how wrote
"Peter Norton's Guide to programming the pc." It's published by
Microsof Press. It talks a little about multi-monitors. It provides
enough to actually do it.

I believe Turbo Pascal v5 and TurboC v2 allow for multiple monitors.
I know for sure that there is a game call "Mjahjong" (sp???) that
can use two VGA monitors.

If you are using two EGA monitors, it is necessary to to program
each card to display a different portion of the video memory.

If you were using a EGA,VGA,MCGA, or CGA with a Hercules card, it
isn't necessary because the video memory that is displayed is different
to begin with.

You don't want to buy the book, I'll be happy to post/email the
necessary rountines to allow this.

It would be nice to know what language you are doing this in.

Any 100% compatible VGA or EGA card will do.
