[comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc] Norton 5.0 Sysinfo problem? Or just me?

MHS108@psuvm.psu.edu (Mark Solsman) (11/06/90)

I reciently ran Norton 5.0 SysInfo on my computer system at home and ran into
this. Could this be true, or is SysInfo incorrect?

SysInfo reported my DTR on my hard drive to be 550mbps.

My drive is a Microscience 110Meg ESDI 17msec, my controller is a Adaptec w/
512K cache. According to my manual, I should be getting 10mbps DTR.

(of course, it is a Gateway, and the manual could be totally incorrect)

Any and All Responces Will Be Greatly Appreciated.(so I know if I got ripped)

The reason for this discrepancy, unless I am sadly mistaken, is the '512Kb
cache' on the controller card. Obviously the s/w dosen't take into account
the possibility of the controller card having a built-in cache. If you can
turn it off, you might get a more accurate result. But why bother. The manual
is never wrong anyway, so why test it. Just like programs never have bugs and
I am _always_ right. (Quick where's the 'bug' spray, Argh... die you fiend).

Well obviously (:-)) you did. You bought some s/w with a "X.0" release number.
Silly boy :-).

Watch out for new/major updgraded s/w with "X.[1-9]" as their first release
number... (Where have all the 0's gone???)
